Photos of woodcut demo at Foothills Art Center

Thank you to everyone that came to my demonstration on Saturday at the Foothills Art Center, and to Michael Chavez, the director, for inviting me. I had several people attend from my mailing list, and met some new people, including a woman that was referred to the event by a ranger I knew from the Grand Canyon.
I worked under a mirror like a cooking show, so everyone could see what I was doing. My prints were set out on the tables with some wood blocks to help demonstrate the process. I enjoyed sharing my printmaking process with everyone, and answering their questions. Demonstrations help educate people how much time and work goes in to making a woodcut print.

My cooking blog

I am an avid cook, and have been getting Fine Cooking magazine for a few years, and love their recipes. In the Feb./Mar. issue, they started a "cook the entire issue" challenge. Well, I took on that challenge and have been trying to cook my my through pureed soups, carrot cakes, and red cooked tofu. Contestants have until March 5th to cook all of the dishes, photograph them, and write about it in a blog on their website. The winner gets a $200 shopping spree on the Fine Cooking website for cooking merchandise. It is a lot of work, but I'm in it for the glory of winning. Check out my alias Muesli, cooking trial and errors, and successes at;
and wish me luck!

Will you be my friend?
I've been resistant to all of the social networking that is present on the web. What if you don't want to be found by someone you had gym class with in second grade? Is there any privacy anymore? Do we really have to expose our lives and thoughts to the world 24/7 in the name of networking, marketing, and social contacts? Alyson Stanfield, an art consultant I know, insists on the importance of making the most of these networking opportunities. She sends out a weekly newsletter on Mondays that made me change my mind. "It's time to get serious about using the Internet more effectively. Expanding your online presence is always (ALWAYS) a good idea, but now might be a good time to devote even more of your energy to doing so." "If you're not yet on these sites, don't waste another moment. Just trust me on this one. No whining! No complaining! No excuses!"
It is impossible to stay off the web anyway. Have you ever "googled" yourself? Try it. It's very surprising to me what shows up. If there's no fighting it, I might as well take Alyson's advice, join in, and network with only a little bit of whining.
So you can now find me on Linked In, Facebook, Twitter, and Inkteraction, a printmaking networking group. I feel a little exposed and vulnerable. Find me, follow me, but please be kind, and be my friend.

American Print 2009

Happy New Year!
I am just getting back in to the studio and working on some new prints. It has been a long time for me after quite a dry spell of creativity. It is hard to get back in the groove and find a new direction to work in. I think the key is to keep going once you find it, and never slow down, or you lose it again.
Save the date next month for a woodblock printing demonstration I will be doing
Saturday February 28, 1:30 pm
in conjunction with the exhibition;
American Print 2009 Influence Someone, Politics in Print
Foothills Art Center, Golden, CO
Please stop by to see me. Admission is free!
